With the passing of International Women’s Day earlier this month, it’s evident that we, as women, have come a long way. As a gender, we have grown tremendously fighting for our rights and coming together. As a community, we have stayed determined, resilient, and strong when times are tough. We have united as one to support each other, challenge each other, and believe in one another. Ultimately, we have empowered each other to get to where we are today.
One voice can be loud; however, with the support of hundreds or thousands others, that voice becomes deafening. It creates a movement. It’s a voice that signifies for the changes yet to come and the challenges that we will undoubtedly face together.
Nonetheless, we are all “busy” in our own day-to-day lives and sometimes the concept of community gets lost in translation. We are overpowered with jealousy, frustration, and competition. We, as women, are prone to acting on our emotions. Being pushed and pulled daily onto the emotional roller coaster and wanting to helping one another without over shadowing our own success. We are so afraid to walk the “fine line” that we forget we created that “fine line” in the first place and it’s up to us to get rid of it once and for all.
Often, I wonder how and where the notion of helping others would be detrimental to my own success. Looking back now, it doesn’t make a whole lot of sense and I truly believe that we don’t lose anything when we are to lend a hand to someone else. I wouldn’t be who I am or where I stand today without the help and generosity of hundreds of people. Those are the people that took a chance on me, offered me insight, lent a shoulder, and challenged me to become better and stronger – no matter how big or small the impact was.
To me, true success is only achieved when we empower others. Here are 8 simple ways to empower others to succeed:
Surround Yourself With Different People
Diversity encourages us to think differently. It can open our eyes, broaden our horizons, and challenge ourselves to look at situations creatively. When we are surrounded by like-minded people, we ultimately are inspired to do more and BE more. It’s a wonderful feeling to have a group of people that just GETS it! Not only can we encourage others to try something different, we are ultimately
Share The Wealth of Knowledge
How many times have we flourished and prospered because we took a piece of advice from someone else? Sharing the knowledge and what you have learned so that someone else doesn’t make the same mistake. We very often get in our heads, that someone would steal our idea. If we are to share what we are working on or that we would lose if we were to share what we have learned… that is however not the case! When we allow for our walls to drop and open our minds (and our hearts) to the possibility that someone genuinely wants to help us, we open a world of opportunities. Two heads are ALWAYS better than one and putting faith and trust in someone builds a bond that we should allow more into our lives.
Along with perseverance and GRIT, a positive attitude is the essence of success. How we choose to react or perceive a situation can change how we work and interact with other people. Be the sunshine in someone’s life. Spread happiness and positivity to those around us. There’s always a light at the end of each dark tunnel – so BE that light for someone else. Be the energy we want to attract, and empower others to do the same.
When we try something new, we are ultimately taking a risk.Whether it be learning a new language or collaborating on a home decor project with new friends, the outcome is unpredictable! However, it’s that element of surprise that keeps life interesting and lively. It brings people together with similar interests and forge new connections. While risk-taking might not pan out the way you want it to, it often can result into new ideas and new relationships.
Show Vulnerability From Time to Time
Often people assume vulnerability is a symbol of weakness, but in all honesty, it’s considered a strength. It takes guts to be able to admit our mistakes or feelings openly. We don’t always feel 100% all the time, and that’s life! However, when we choose to open up to other people and publicly, we are showing courage and strength. Vulnerability is what connects us together. It fosters a strong bond and relationship with one another. Be proud of our highlight reels, but don’t be afraid to show our behind the scenes. Be authentic- because we will never know whose life we may inspire or change.
Celebrate Others’ Efforts Despite The Outcome
Cheer each other on no matter what the outcome is. It doesn’t matter if they failed or succeed – as long as they tried. No matter how big or small each victory or failure is, be there to support one another and celebrate each other for taking a step in the right direction. Success always starts with failure. The sooner we realize and accept it, the sooner we can get back up and try again.
Challenge Each Other
Often, the best way to go above and beyond what you do is to be challenged by others. When we are held accountable by someone else, we work harder to accomplish that specific task or goal just to prove our worth. When we challenge each other, we learn to test our limits and realize what potential we have.
Pay It Forward
What goes around comes around. Be grateful to those who mentored you or supported you and pay it forward to those who may be in need of a little boost of confidence or guidance. Surprise someone with a gesture of kindness – you never know how that will benefit you in the long run!
If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.
