We think it’s finally safe to say that winter has ended over here in Canada and we’re standing with open arms welcoming spring. The snow is melting, the sun is shining, and the smell of fresh air is so refreshing! We can’t wait for the flowers to start blooming and the leaves to start growing to give Ottawa some colours. These past three months have flown by so quickly and it seems like yesterday we were making our New Year Resolutions… but there’s something about that spring air that creates this momentum and the feeling of change and new beginnings.
So tell us! What goals did you set at the beginning of the year? Have you created a plan of action in order to crush them? Or maybe you have taken a closer look at the goals you have set and realize they don’t speak to you anymore. That’s okay! It just means that you are growing and your interests are shifting.
With the arrival of Spring comes a round (or two) of good ol’ Spring-Cleaning! Here are a few ways to use the feeling of new beginnings as motivation and to kick your life into high gear.
Declutter and let go
Whether it’s going through your belongings, clearing your mind, or even reevaluating some friendships — it’s a great first step to start off a new season. When we decide to eliminate things in our life that no longer serves us or our purpose, we are taking a stand in owning our integrity. Sometimes, we keep things thinking that maybe we will need it later on but when in reality, we simply just don’t want to let them go. Whether that be old feelings or touching memories, we tend to dwell and revisit the past when our present isn’t going the way we want it to go. The same goes with friendships! It’s easier to hold onto the memories of people than to let them go. We, as humans, often give our our friends the benefit of the doubt that they will change for the better or come back to us time and time again. However, it’s important to realize that some people are meant to pass our lives and to teach us lessons while some others are meant to stay forever. Decluttering and letting go is a way of life and once we understand what we want our story to unfold, we begin to sift through the keepsakes, the thoughts, and the people in order to reach that happy ending.
Once you’re feeling good and cleared everything that’s no longer holding you back, immerse yourself into something that you’re passionate about and/or try something new!
You do you, I’ll do me
Doing things that we love is the antidote to our own happiness. We get so caught up in what others think and what society expects from us that we forget about the main character in the story — ourselves. By letting go of the pressure, negativity, and accepting who we are and what we want to do, we are deciding to live the authentic life that we have always dreamed of for ourselves and inspiring others to do the same. Instead of having your dream stay a dream, turn the dream into a reality and take that first step forward.
When you think you have gotten your mojo back and are feel like a fire has been lit, it’s time to get your creative juices flowing! What is it that you truly want to accomplish? Take away all the roadblocks, negativity, doubt, and fear; what is it that you want to do?
Breathe, write it down
Settle into a comfortable space. Grab a latte and put your headphones on. Get lost in nature and take a walk. Chat it out to yourself or with a friend. Do whatever it is that you need in order to gain a clear focus on what you want. Then write it down. By writing things down, you’re taking that next big step in creating a plan and putting it on paper. That plan will be your roadmap for your dream to get from Point A to Point B. Always remember that people and situations are constantly shifting in our universe, so your goal may change in three months from now. The point, however, is to get you to start somewhere and grow slowly into your dream.
Be gentle with yourself and learn be vulnerable. Remember that you can’t control how you feel about a certain situation but you can always prepare yourself for it. Anything is possible if you put your hustle and heart to it! Don’t create an imaginable story in your head and turn that dream into a negative thing. Doubt is our biggest roadblock and it’s time we eliminate that word from our vocabulary! So go on, dig deep. Your journey’s just beginning!
