For a girl to become successful, she needs the support of the world around her.
Women are the leaders of their communities. Without them, half of us wouldn’t be here today.
Most of us are lucky to have parents, coaches, mentors, friends, and teachers who provide countless resources and tools to elevate us to become who we are today. They invested their time, money, and effort into us so that we could be the best versions of ourselves. We are constantly surrounded by copious amount of education; whether that be school, books, online certifications, extracurricular activities, leadership camps, or more. We breathe in knowledge every day. Without those opportunities, we wouldn’t be as accomplished or well-rounded as we are today.
Now imagine all of that never existed. You never graduated from high school because your parents struggles to make ends meet and can’t afford the fees or textbooks. Art classes never existed. You only had the chance to read maybe a handful of books in your lifetime. You live in an area of a city where there is no computers or internet easily accessible. And lastly, there are no other women around for you to look up to and learn from.
That’s no way for anyone to live.
As of today, there are globally 130 million girls who are not in school, of which 50 million girls of secondary school age denied an education.
That’s 130 million too many girls feeling undervalued, belittled, and weak.
All girls deserve the right to feel empowered by her education, strength, and worth in their communities. Women need to develop basic life skills to help them make informed decisions, lead a healthier life, and become their best advocate for herself and her family.
Activism is for everyone. It’s time we help dismantle any barriers to education and success for women and empower them with the tools they need to build a better future.
“At the very least, women everywhere in the world need three things to be able to reach their full potential: health, decision-making power, and economic opportunities”. — Melinda Gates
